Fifth-round pick Jordan Travis, quarterback for Florida State, by the Jets

During the NFL Draft on Saturday, the Jets continued to be aggressive and selected Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis in the fifth round.

The Travis choice follows another transaction involving Joe Douglas. In order to secure Travis and acquire Philly’s 171st pick, the general manager of the Jets bundled two sixth-round picks (Nos. 185 and 190).

Travis remarked, “It is a freaking dream come true.” “I haven’t felt it yet. Right now, my emotions are all over the place. It has been such a struggle, and to get where we are now is such a blessing, just to see the happiness on my family’s faces.”

Travis (6-1, 200) recorded 20 touchdown throws to two interceptions with 63.9% accuracy in his sixth college season and fifth at FSU. He led the Seminoles to an 11-0 record and a No. 5 national ranking. Travis suffered a fracture and dislocation to his left ankle in Game 11 versus North Alabama, effectively ending both his and the ‘Noles’ season.

They were invited to the Orange Bowl to play Georgia, the defending national champion, but they were not included in the College Football Playoffs after winning the ACC with a 13-0 record. The Seminoles were trounced by the Bulldogs, 63-3.

In reference to his injury and the ‘Noles’ demise, Travis remarked, “It sucked for sure, but I know at the end of the day God has a plan.” “My supporting cast is excellent. My friends, teammates, and family are all fantastic at Florida State. I therefore wake up each day and stare down at my feet, living where my feet are.”

Despite scoring 27 touchdowns in all, Travis was still able to secure a spot on the First Team All-ACC roster. Travis also earned Second-Team All-ACC accolades in 2022 after completing 64% of his throws for 3,214 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Despite being predominantly known as a dual-threat quarterback his first two seasons in Tallahassee, Travis demonstrated remarkable progress as a thrower.

Travis proclaimed, “I am a playmaker.” That, in my opinion, is the primary concern. When everything fails, I write plays. I’m just a competitor and a baller. The essential thing for me is to dominate the player opposite me and to win every time I get onto the pitch. I have loved winning so much throughout my career, and I detest losing, therefore I will stop at nothing to win.”

Travis, who started 2022–23 with a 21-3 record, is a capable leader. He has so far accepted the rehabilitation process and, should he overcome all medical obstacles, will have an excellent chance to pick Aaron Rodgers’ and Tyrod Taylor’s brains about the professional game.
